Is There Something Worth Watching?

For a while now, I have been waiting for a show to consume me, enthrall me, captivate me, and complete me!  Excuse me for being melodramatic, but have you seen the shows “they” are expecting us to watch as of late?  I am not only referring to reality shows because there are some horrible shows out there in general!  Instead of focusing on the negative, let us focus on some of the series that have caught my eye.

One of the first shows that I recall getting into is Dark Angel (2000).  Do you remember that show?  It starred Jessica Alba as a genetically enhanced human in some weird futuristic world.  It was a pretty far-fetched premise, but hey, everything is possible, right?  I thought this show was amazing for the first season and a half or so.  I am sure this had to do with the show getting cancelled during the second season and the writers trying to tie loose ends together.

After I lost interest in Dark Angel, I moved on to Alias (2001).  Compared to Dark Angel, Alias was completely realistic!  Jennifer Garner’s character was a double agent for the CIA who traveled all over the world to save the day.  I was really into this show–well at least the first three seasons.  This always happens to me as is evident with Dark Angel.  I start to like a show, and I will lose interest as the season progresses due to the writers losing steam (this is my guess at least).  I may not have the best taste in television shows, but I know what I like!  And I apparently like action shows with kick-ass girls as the protagonists!

Since then, I had not been hooked on a show until Dexter (2006)!  I started watching Dex (yes, we are that close) during it’s third season.  Normally, I won’t start watching a show in the middle of the serious, but Dex has been an exception.  This summer, I decided to catch up on Dex to fully prepare me for the upcoming sixth season!  Yes, I am excited!

Even though Dex has captured my attention, it has yet to complete me!  I am still on the look out to find a series that will fill the void that Alias left behind!  I’ve thought about watching Mad Men (2007).  It has been a very popular series and I dig the fact that it is set in the 1960s.  But do I really want to catch up on all of those missed seasons?  Not really, not now at least!

So what did I do last night?  I decided to watch a new serious that is said to be Mad Menesque.  I am talking about Pan Am (2011).  Pan Am is another period drama based in a time when women were supposed to look pretty and that’s pretty much it (similar to Mad Men).  The first episode really didn’t do much for me.  I understand that premiere episodes are meant to set a series up and will have so much background character information–that is why, I will give Pan Am a chance to redeem itself next week.

Now I have a question for you:

What is your favorite series, and why?

I would appreciate some suggestions and I am sure anyone who reads this blog will appreciate them as well.
